Multimaterial Biofabrication

Multimaterial biofabrication and tissue engineering are one of the main focus of the project. The final goal is to create better bioresorbable implants for the health care sector.

The scaffolds and implants used nowadays in the biomedical sector are often not bioresorbable or have low mechanical properties. The research group will focus on ostheochondral defects and bone/cartilage tissues as a demostrator case to shocase the potential of the technology. 

Personalized medicine & drug discovery

Personalized medicine is a new branch in the pharmaceutical industry where products are tailored to the individual patient and needs. 

Using Chiron platforms researchers can create customized inks and powders for pharmaceutical applications. It is possible now to develop patient specific drugs, tablets. and even implantable drug delivery devices using an automated process with high precision and industrial throughput.

Regenerative medicine

Chiron team will investigate is the possibility to jet cells through the bioprinting platform at an unprecedented speed and resolution. The possibility to 3dprint cells and combine the cells with other biomaterials in an automated process would allow researchers to experiment and develop new applications in the field of regenerative medicine. This approach would allow in vitro and in vivo experiments to engineer complex tissues.  With the possibility to jet cells and different types of cells the 3Dprinting will acquire a 4th dimension to create biomimetic tissues micro and macro environments at an unprecedented speed and resolution. 

Bioprocessing

Cells Bioprocessing is a discipline bridging cells theraphy and biophamraceutical manufacturing. To test and research in this field it is necessary an automated process able to reproduce high quality standards both in the research and manufacturing of final products.  Those processes have to be scalable and automated to ensure future commercial viability in the industry. Chiron and the bioprocessing platform allow to recreate experiment in small scale and later to industrialize the processes for large throughput and industrial applications.

The bioprinting platform allows to test and bioprint cells in a quick and efficient way using also very small quantities of fluids.
