Chiron, Multimaterial Bioprinting

The project Chiron is funded by Eurostars, a european programme specifically dedicated to research performing SMEs. Eurostars stimulates them to lead  international collaborative research and innovation projects.

The programme is market driven, focusses on the needs of SMEs and specifically targets the development of new products, processes and services and the access to transnational and international markets.

The aim of the project is to create a multimaterial bioprinting platform for the research and production in the biomedical sector to create a portfolio of biomaterials and applications.

Personalized medicine & drug discovery

Personalized medicine is a new branch in the pharmaceutical industry where products are tailored to the individual patient and needs.

Using Chiron platforms researchers can create customized inks and powders for pharmaceutical applications. It is possible now to develop patient specific drugs, tablets. and even implantable drug delivery devices using an automated process with high precision and industrial throughput.

Multimaterial Biofabrication

Multimaterial biofabrication and tissue engineering are one of the main focus of the project. The final goal is to create better bioresorbable implants for the health care sector.

The scaffolds and implants used nowadays in the biomedical sector are often not bioresorbable or have low mechanical properties. The research group will focus on ostheochondral defects and bone/cartilage tissues as a demostrator case to shocase the potential of the technology.

Regenerative medicine

Unique bio-printers for cell culture and regenerative medicine. Fast and accurate bio-inkjet system to jet cells and run experiments.

Unique bioprocessing system to jet large amounts of cells within complex geometries and multi material matrices.
